Bears Number Three in Wildcard Standings

CHSAA released its latest version of wildcard points and Rifle ranked third in 3A with 79.143 points. Hot on the heels of the Bears are their Western Slope League rivals Palisade. The Bulldogs sit in 5th place with 78.143 points. Battle Mountain is ranked 8th with 77.429 points. Surprisingly, Glenwood Springs is the next Western Slope school in the rankings. The Demons sit at 24th place despite their 3-4 overall record. This is due to the fact that they played a 4A and 5A foe. Delta is the next WSL team. The Panthers rank 29th with 58.857 points. Moffat County, Eagle Valley and Steamboat round out the WSL standings at 37th, 42nd and 46th places respectively.

At 1-6, Moffat County is No Pushover

The Bears next foe is 1-6 Moffat County. The Bulldogs may not have the best record, but it is not at all indicative of their overall talent level. Moffat County has fallen victim to an unusually difficult schedule that has led to a rough start to the season. They lost a very close opener to 6-1 Evergreen, they lost by only four points to #5 (2A) Aspen, and then fell victim to a very powerful Kennedy Team. The Kennedy Commanders are ranked #1 in 3A wildcard points and rolled to a 37 point victory over Moffat County. In week four the Bulldogs beat a tough Delta team at home and then gave the (then #1 ranked) Palisade Bulldogs all that they wanted in week five, finally succumbing 38-20. Week six was probably Moffat’s worst showing as they dropped a game to a struggling Glenwood Springs squad. The Bulldogs rebounded however, to give a powerful and state-ranked Battle Mountain team a hard fought game last week.

Bubba Ivers (#11) leads the Bulldogs in both rushing and passing with 763 and 498 yards respectively. The Bears must also closely watch Michael Samuelson (#12). The junior has racked up 674 yards on 123 carries. Miguel Molina (#7) is the Bulldogs leading receiver with 252 yards on the season. Molina also leads the Bulldogs in tackles with 30.
