Bears Score Homecoming Win versus Cortez

The Bears garnered a 27-18 homecoming win against the visiting Panthers Friday night. It was a hard-hitting game that resulted in Rifle's first league win of the year. The Bears travel to Steamboat this week for another Western Slope Conference game.

Bears Find First Win of 2009

After two tough weeks to open the season, the Bears traveled to Brush and came away with a solid 33-25 win over the Beetdiggers. The win marks the first for head coach Ryan Sulkowski. Next up for the Bears is a road game at Delta next Friday.

RHS Welcomes Head Coach Ryan Sulkowski

The Bears' search for a new head coach is over. Ryan Sulkowski has accpeted the job and will be moving to Rifle this spring. Sulkowski has seven years experience at the coaching level including a recent stint at Clemson University. Welcome, Coach Sulkowski and family!

The Bears have been one of the most successful teams in recent Colorado 3A football hoistory. Prior to 2008, Rifle had been in the playoffs for 13 consecutive years and had been league champions in 4 of the last 10 years (with a 86 - 35 record).

Despite finishing fourth in the Western Slope Conference in 2004 and 2005, the Bears appeared in two consecutive 3A state championship games, and brought home the state title in 2004. In 2006, the Bears finished the season tied for the best record in the Conference. In the playoffs, Rifle scored more points than any other Mean Moose opponent in a quarterfinal loss to eventual state champion Alamosa. In 2007, the Bears qualified for the playoffs for the 13th consecutive year and more than held their own with eventual state finalist Falcon, scoring more points than any Falcons opponent had all year.

In all, the Bears have 27 Colorado state playoff appearances and have played in 48 total playoff games with a 23-24-1 all time playoff record in the single elimination tournament. The Bears are an impresseive 11-9 in the playoffs since 1998.
